Zoetis Foundation Announces New Grantees in New Regions

Grants to organizations with programming in Canada, India, Japan and Mexico to benefit veterinary education, mental health and farmer livelihoods
Building on its first five years of impact, and its commitment to caring for those who care for animals, the Zoetis Foundation is expanding its impact through new grantmaking in Canada, Japan, Mexico and India. The Zoetis Foundation has selected grantees that will broaden access to veterinary education opportunities and well-being resources, as well as help enable thriving livelihoods for livestock farmers.
“Veterinarians and livestock farmers are at the heart of everything we do,” said Jeannette Ferran Astorga, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs at Zoetis and President of the Zoetis Foundation. “Aligned with the Foundation’s mission to care for those who care for animals, we are pleased to expand its reach in additional countries by funding new organizations’ initiatives and programming that will make a positive impact for veterinary professionals and livestock farmers in Japan, Canada, Mexico and India.”
Education
Aimed at strengthening veterinary educational opportunities in Japan, the Zoetis Foundation’s grant to the Japan Veterinary Medical Association (JVMA) will support their partnership with Tokyo-area universities and clinical facilities. This grant program will provide supervised, hands-on clinical training during academic breaks for veterinary students pursuing livestock and companion animal veterinary careers.
Well-being
In Canada, a grant to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) will provide veterinary professionals and students with improved access to mental health resources that address pressing challenges including burnout and suicide. Resources include an online platform and call service, peer-to-peer support, and a national directory of mental health professionals with veterinary experience.
Livelihoods
To support resilience of livestock farmers in Mexico and India, the Zoetis Foundation is pleased to provide two grants to Heifer International. In Oaxaca, Mexico, the Zoetis Foundation’s grant supports improvements to producer livelihoods and the environment by establishing regional learning hubs and providing targeted technical assistance focused on productivity, animal welfare, and environmental outcomes.
In India’s regions of Idisha, Bihar and West Bengal, the Zoetis Foundation’s grant funds the “Community Agro Vet Entrepreneurs Program,” which scales community para-veterinary services for poultry, goats, and cattle to improve animal health, productivity, and ultimately, smallholder farmers’ incomes.
These new grants from the Zoetis Foundation are in addition to continued grantmaking eligibility in Australia, Africa, Brazil, China, European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States. With continued commitment to supporting the veterinary workforce and livestock farmers, the Foundation remains focused on three grant-making areas: education, well-being and livelihoods. As of the close of 2025, the Zoetis Foundation has disbursed $35 million in grants, impacting 71 countries through 118 executed grant initiatives.
