Dr. Scott A. Brown, Vice President of External Innovation, Veterinary Medicine Research & Development at Zoetis, shares Zoetis' approach to research alliances with organizations and companies across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, agribusiness and animal health industries and describes the company’s research areas of interest.

No company, large or small, can succeed alone in the world of breakthrough medicines and vaccines.  Powerful partnerships combine complementary talents, expertise and passion with the organizational capacity to deliver innovative products globally and to advance science.

At Zoetis, we focus on developing research partnerships with the pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, animal health and agribusiness industries. We collaborate with current and emerging leaders in academia, and public and private institutions that are focused on improving the health and well-being of animals and the people who care for them.  We also engage in open research collaborations with companies that have expertise in areas that complement our own research interests and capabilities.  Together we can create unique solutions to challenging issues.

Specifically, we look for partnerships with organizations and institutions that can work with us to identify new and innovative aligned with our values and strategic focus.  This spans research to identify innovative compounds and novel vaccine adjuvants, to new formulation and drug delivery technologies and more.

Our Research Alliance Interests

Zoetis is seeking research alliances across four areas:

  • Therapeutics.  We are interested in new solutions for pain and inflammation, cardiovascular disease, immunomodulation, chronic renal disease, parasite control (particularly prevention of resistant heartworm infections in dogs) as well as new solutions to enhance livestock performance.  We are also interested in the treatment of infectious diseases in animals through development of anti-bacterial medicines for veterinary use and novel anti-infective alternatives to antibiotics.
  • Disease Prevention Strategies. We are always investigating disease prevention strategies through vaccines as well as novel adjuvants, more convenient vaccine formulations, orally active vaccine technologies and novel vaccine production platforms.
  • Dosage and Delivery Technologies. We are seeking partnerships to help accelerate development of palatable oral dosage forms (soft-chew) for companion animals and dose delivery technologies such as single shot vaccines and pulsed or controlled release drug delivery technologies.
  • Bioinformatics.  We are also interested in new bioinformatics solutions such as integrative software platforms and expertise in bioinformatics sample master.
