November 11 is a day to honor those who have served in militaries around the world. In the United States, the day is known as Veterans Day – commemorating all military veterans and active duty military members. The day is also recognized in many other countries including the U.K., Canada, and Australia, as Armistice Day, or Remembrance Day. The significance of celebrating veterans on November 11th dates back to World War I when an armistice was finally put into effect on November 11, 1918.
Veterans and veteran family members have made and continue to make significant contributions to Zoetis. We’re very proud to employ almost 150 veterans in the U.S. and we thank all our veterans and active duty / reserve military for their service!
In recognition of Veterans Day, we asked a few colleagues to share about why the day is personally meaningful to them. Here’s what they had to say:
“As a member of the US Air Force Reserve, I believe Veterans Day offers a chance to reflect on the sacrifice made by those who serve. I take a purposeful moment to offer gratitude to all those who raised their hand and swore an oath to defend the country with their life.”
– Emily, Project Manager, Portfolio Strategy & Operations, VMRD
“Veterans Day is a time to recognize the men and women who gave unselfishly of themselves in service to our country. It is a significant reminder for me to pause and reflect on those who have gone before me to defend freedom and democracy around the world. I am thankful for the people who served, still serve, and for everyone who supports them!”
– Frank, Territory Manager, Bio-device Field Service, Navy Senior Chief (Retired)
“I am the 5th generation in a military family – a military brat and military wife. My passion for Veterans led me to volunteer for Talons Out Honor Flight with other Zoetis colleagues. We fly Veterans to Washington DC to honor them with a visit to their Memorials. Through volunteering I have met WWII Veterans who were at Hickam Air Force base during the Pearl Harbor attack, men who fought at the Battle of the Bulge and Normandy, and a Marine who was there when they raised the flag at Iwo Jima. Veterans are our nation’s heroes – they paved the way for us to live in freedom. They saw horrors that we could never imagine. We owe them all.”
– Angela, Zoetis-Engineering Planner/Contract Administrator, GMS
“I think about our veterans past, present, and future almost every day. I think about the soldiers I had the privilege to lead in Afghanistan, the West Point classmates I have lost, and those that continue to serve this great country of ours. And I think about the sacrifices that all these veterans and their families have made in some way in the service of our country, some sacrifices visible but many invisible. When I see the many veterans and realize what they have selflessly done so that others can enjoy the freedoms of America, it makes me proud to stand and be counted amongst them.”
– Agostino, Regional Manager, Global Diagnostics
