Agricultural Development

The middle class around the world continues to grow, and along with this growth comes an increased demand for animal protein.  We support educational programming that helps rural farmers increase meat and dairy production to meet growing demand. This helps bring agricultural development and jobs to disadvantaged communities.

Zoetis supports a range of initiatives that teach people how to raise animals and keep them healthy. We also sponsor projects that educate small-scale farmers about animal health and provide the technical support they need to fight hunger, become self-sufficient and sell their agricultural products.

Our efforts to sustain and enhance agricultural development around the world include dedicated partnerships such as:

The Zoetis team in Colombia is in its second year of running a program called GANAPLAN which helps cattle farmers track the sanitary status, costs and return on investment of their business. With a current reach of 150 farmers, this program provides each farmer with a complete analysis of their business, including testing for reproductive diseases. The information collected allows Zoetis to give targeted advice to farmers so they can make better decisions, providing them with the opportunity to grow their business.

Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines

Zoetis was a key partner in creating and launching the Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines (GALVmed), an organization dedicated to improving the health and food security of more than 600 million of the world’s poorest people in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia who rely on farm animals for their livelihoods. Today, we support GALVmed in targeting parasitic diseases affecting cattle in East Africa, poultry throughout the world, and zoonotic diseases, such as trypanosomiasis or African sleeping sickness, that migrate from animals to people.

Smart Village

Through this partnership, Zoetis works to enhance the capacity of veterinarians who serve small agricultural villages in Egypt that have historically had limited access to veterinary services. We support specialized training for veterinarians at Cairo University and sponsor educational newsletters for village farmers designed to expand their animal health knowledge and connect them with Smart Village veterinarians. Zoetis also sponsors a day for livestock owners to attend a seminar and have their animals examined.
